We complete comprehensive psychological assessments for a variety of referral needs and questions. In addition to clinical consultation related to a variety of topics, such as cognition, academic barriers, mental health, and domestic violence, we also provide professional development training.
It is our main priority to ensure that our clients are treated with the utmost respect and dignity and that referral questions are answered in a way that is both clinically valid and functional. Following our involvement, you should feel as though you better understand why, so it's easier to make productive and effective decisions.
Not all problems can be 'fixed,' but all problems can be addressed in ways that are most effective and allow for the most possible success. This involves considering ALL information when forming conclusions, not just symptoms or previous diagnoses. We will provide you with information and understanding that will allow this to occur.
So many students of all ages struggle to develop academic skills and experience the level of success they otherwise appear capable of. Understanding the basis for these issues and how to best address the underlying cause(s) is extremely important.
Behavioural issues are a very common way for children to communicate. Understanding what they are trying to communicate to us through their behaviour is essential in terms of most effectively supporting them, which provides the best opportunity for progress to be made.
Many areas, including but not limited to, anxiety, depression, attachment issues, trauma, ADHD, and general social issues, can all be factors that are impacting one's life. Understanding these potential underlying issues can be vital, particularly if other barriers (e.g., cognitive issues, specific learning disorders, etc.) are present.
Assessments look at the possibility of global cognitive barriers, as well as specific cognitive issues such as those related to executive functioning, short-term memory, long-term memory, working memory, social cognition, processing speed, language development, visual-spatial abilities, and reasoning/problem-solving, among others.
